Art Process
My artistic process is at the heart of my vision. The way that I immerse myself in the water is essential. The time I spend in to a place deepens my ability to see the beauty through the horrifying state of our waters and lands. I have walked our rivers for years creating photographs and learning where to paint and print in shoreline open-air studios. Every visit the inks, tools, and the way the water is showing me beauty is different. I draw and print with dead snake corpses, a river log printing press, sediment from commodity farms, four seasons of time, headwaters, a lead pipe and the pace and flow of the water, to name just a few. I ache at times as a stand in the river making art and look around another brutalized, poisoned landscape. This practice of seeing and holding beauty in this way is transformative, feeds an innate need, and is an honor.
